Independent research on metal detectors — verified specs, published sources, honest limitations.
DetectorLab is an independent metal detector research site. We verify every specification against the manufacturer's own pages, publish our sources, and never invent specs — if a manufacturer hasn't published a number, we say so.
Metal detector marketing is full of superlatives: deepest, fastest, most advanced. Most review sites repeat those claims without checking them. We started DetectorLab to do the slower, less glamorous work: reading the actual manuals, comparing the actual specification sheets, and telling you plainly what each machine can and cannot do.
No. DetectorLab is fully independent. We are not owned by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Minelab, Garrett, Nokta, XP, Fisher, or any other manufacturer. Our revenue comes from reader purchases through affiliate links, which never influences which models we recommend.
Content is produced by the DetectorLab Editors, a small team focused on metal detecting research. We publish our full methodology so you can judge our work on its evidence, not on personalities.
Model pages are re-checked against manufacturer pages at least twice a year, and sooner when manufacturers announce new models or firmware updates. Every page shows its last-updated date.
